Robert Byrle Higgins, 89, of Thomson Avenue, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with his loving family by his side.

Born January 29, 1924 in Lake George, he was the son of the late Harry and Chloe (Ingraham) Higgins.

Robert served in the United States Army Battery D, 397th Anti-Aircraft (Automatic Weapons) Battalion during World War II; the second faction to invade Normandy. He was also stationed in Central Europe, Northern France, and Rhineland.

Robert owned Lake George Auto Service for a number of years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and a long time member of the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Eleanor Higgins.

Robert is survived by his sons, Bruce Higgins of Tucson, AZ, Brian Higgins and his wife, Elizabeth of Catalina, AZ, and Bradley Higgins and his wife, Patricia of Hartford, NY; grandchildren, Kyle Higgins of Winchendon, MA, Lindsey Higgins of AZ, Merissa Higgins of Longview, TX, Corrina Parnapy and her husband, Jeremy of Lake George, Joshua Higgins of Fort Edward, Sarah Mattox and her husband, Mike Frost of Seattle, WA, Jody Karas and her husband, Benjamin of Whitesboro, NY, and Jason Van Jahnke of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren; William Parnapy, Michaela and Rebecca Higgins, and Benjamin and Mitchell Karas. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call on Robert's family from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 1 pm at the funeral home.

Burial with Military Honors will be conducted privately at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of his family.

Robert’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Washington County Hospice for the care and compassion provided to him and his family in his last few weeks.
