Obituary of Charles Louis Annibale

CHESTERTOWN: Charles Louis Annibale, born on March 26, 1926, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at his home in Chestertown, NY.

Beloved husband of Jacqueline M. Annibale. Loving father of Anne-Marie Baumis (Michael – who preceded him in death) and Charles A. P. Annibale. Loving grandfather to Emily Claire Annibale and Alex Gomez. Loving brother of Josephine Annibale King and the late Ralph Annibale.  Devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in New York City, Charlie voluntarily enlisted in the US Navy as a young man of 17 years old and served on the USS Davis 395 Destroyer during WWII and saw action on D-Day off Omaha Beach. Charlie was wounded during his services during the war and received the Purple Heart.  After his service, Charlie then attended Oklahoma State University, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry.  He went on to work for the United States Department of Labor as the Director of Civil Rights in region 2 for over 25 years.

His life changed when he married Jacqueline Mary on January 11, 1959 and their long love story began. They had two children together, Anne-Marie and “Cappy”. Jacqueline and Charlie spent their time with family and friends, creating family traditions, travelling, and enjoying the life they created. Recently Jacqueline and Charlie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. 

Some of Charlie’s hobbies include woodworking, listening to music especially to his idol, Frank Sinatra, dining out and watching action movies.

The last few years of his life, Charlie received excellent health care from High Peaks Hospice, Greater Adirondack Home Aides donated by the VA and especially his favorite nurses Sue Dunnigan and Terry Russo.

Charlie enjoyed visiting the National WWII Museum and is listed on their honor roll.  He was extremely proud of his service to his country during WWII and wished for all Memorial Contributions to be sent to the: The National WWII Museum, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.

Friends are invited to call on Charlie’s family from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Alexander Funeral Home, Warrensburg, NY 12885.

A funeral service will be conducted the following day, January 26, 2024 at noon with Rev. John O'Kane officiating.

A Military Burial Service will take place at the Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
