Obituary of David Phillip McNeill

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

WARRENSBURG: David Phillip McNeill, born May 9, 1941 in the Adirondacks of New York State, peacefully departed from this world in the early morning of February 5th, 2024 in the home he built.

David explored the world with an imaginative excitement reflected in his many trades and pursuits. Among so much else, David was an avid hunter and outdoorsman (accompanied by his best friend, Mark Morey), a baseball pitcher, a carpenter, a gardener, a lifelong reader and learner, and a family man. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a foreman with Callanan Industries. His life was one rich with curiosity and investment in those surrounding him; for every place and name he encountered throughout his life, he had a story to share. These stories form the wonderful tapestry of human connection that enveloped David’s life, and speak to the ways his kindness has touched the hearts of those around him. He taught his descendants the power of hard work and curiosity, but also the simple pleasure of never taking life too seriously. His humor, intelligence, and love of nature live on in those who continue to celebrate his life, his story imbedded in the memories of his loved ones.

In 1965, while working as a cook at Potter’s Diner in Warrensburg, NY, David fell in love with a waitress and went on to marry her later that year. For 58 years, he has adored his loving wife Beverly McNeill. David lived with Beverly’s quiet, determined strength to support him through every celebration and hardship; she was the one who occupied his mind and heart most of all up until his final moments. Their bond is never to be forgotten.

In addition to his loving wife Beverly, David is survived by his children: Lisa (Richard) Loubriel, David (Wendy) McNeill, Lori (Lee) Gosselin, and Daniel (Jackie) McNeill; his grandchildren: Ashley (Adam) Williams, Sarah (Randy) Loubriel, Angelina Loubriel, David Jr. (Elizabeth) McNeill, Sidney McNeill, Valarie Merced, Michael (Alexia) Merced, Ryan McNeill, Olivia McNeill, and Nolan McNeill; his great grandchildren: Ava Williams, Elliot Hilton, Emmett Hilton, and Mia Hilton; his siblings: Donald Converse, Patrick Converse, and Betty Engle.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 10th at 2 PM at his home. All are welcome to join and share a memory.
